Google Gmail is a free email service offered by Google. It had 1.5 billion active users worldwide as of 2019. Gmail is normally accessed through a web browser or the official mobile app. Google also supports email clients that use the POP and IMAP protocols.

Gmail's storage capacity of one gigabyte per user was much higher than that of its competitors at the time of its inception in 2004. The subscription now includes 15 gigabytes of storage. Users can receive emails with attachments up to 50 megabytes in capacity and send emails up to 25 megabytes in size. Users can insert files from Google Drive inside messages to share larger files. Gmail offers a search-oriented interface as well as a "conversation view" akin to that of an Internet forum. The service is well-known among website developers for its early use of Ajax.
